[[ recipeID=recipe-8kuy4g0np, title=Old Fashioned With A Maple Twist ]]

Maple Syrup Old Fashioned

Here is FPC's favorite version of the Old Fashioned. All this simple drink requires is a good-quality bourbon, bitters, and a bit of maple syrup. Kick the experience up a notch with a juicy Luxardo cherry to top.

Ingredients

Instructions

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Bourbon or Rye
  • 3 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters
  • ½ teaspoon maple syrup
  • 1 orange peel
  • 2-3 cubes of ice or 1 ice ball
  • 1 Luxardo maraschino cherry (optional)

Instructions

  1. Use a vegetable peeler or knife to carefully cut a 2- to 3-inch-long piece of orange peel. Run the pulp-side of the peel around the rim of the Stanford glass, then set the peel aside for later.
  2. Add the bourbon, bitters, and maple syrup to the glass, and stir lightly. Add the ice and stir the drink one more time to mix and chill.
  3. Give the orange peel a good twist above the glass to release its oils, then tuck it into the drink.
  4. Add a maraschino cherry (if available) and serve immediately.

Notes

We prefer a nice wheated bourbon like the Four Rose Single Barrel for this popular drink. Eagle Rare also goes nicely, if you can get your hands on a bottle.

FPC recommends the Stanford or the Royale for this classic cocktail.
